These are examples of a contemporary sculpture style of Hopi Katsinam. In addition to the traditional meaning for the Katsinam, a contemporary injection is placed into these creations. This includes the uplifting motion of the cape at the bottom of the piece to represent that all Katsinam represent Cloud Beings. The use of the shoulders, hand, knee and foot are to create the impression of the body of the Katsinam within for the embodiment of the soul, and  the cape is left open on one side just below the jewelry for a release of the spirit or heart within.  Click on a photo to start the show
