The Crow Mother Katsina (Angwusnasomtaka) is considered by many Hopi to be the Mother of all Katsinam. She appears during the Bean Dance (Powamu) ceremony on all three mesas. During that time, she supervises the initiation of the children into the Katsina society and plays an important role in the continuance of the Katsina ceremonies. Later in the ceremony, she leads other Katsinam into the village holding a basket of bean sprouts marking the beginning of the summer ceremonial cycle.
