The Ho’ote Katsina is one of the more favorites in summer ceremonies. In addition to the regular symbols, the Ho’ote has additional designs on his face representing the star, moon and a rainbow for the spring regeneration.
My work is in the ultrarealistic full figure style and still carries a classic appearance to me – similar to my Grandfather’s style back in the 70s. I love the simplicity, yet detail in the portrayal of his creations. These larger pieces like this require a lot of attention as I am working on them, and finding the larger pieces of root to do them is most difficult, however I truely enjoy carving pieces this size.
